FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Former Norwalk High School Athletic Director Wayne Mones has been named the new girls soccer coach at Notre Dame High School of Fairfield.
Mones retired recently from his position at Norwalk, where he served as athletic director for 10 years. He was previously the head coach at Central Catholic High School and Western Connecticut State University.
Along with coaching, Mones will be on the faculty at Notre Dame as a full-time school counselor. He is the president and director of coaching for the all-girls Yankee United soccer club.
The Rev. William Sangiovanni, president of Notre Dame said: "As president of Notre Dame, I am very pleased that Mr. Mones will be joining the ND faculty as a school counselor as well the position of head coach of our girls’ soccer team. I am confident that with his experience and knowledge he will provide the proper leadership as we move forward.”
“I am very excited to welcome Coach Mones to Notre Dame as a coach and faculty member,'' Athletic Director Rob Bleggi said. "To have a head coach in the building is a great asset for the school. His high school experience as a school counselor and his knowledge and understanding of the game of soccer is undeniable. I believe that Coach Mones can elevate our girls’ soccer program to the next level.”
Mones said he is looking forward to the challenge at Notre Dame.
"Over the course of my coaching career at both the high school (Central Catholic High School, 10 years) and college level (Western Connecticut State University,17 years ) I have been able to provide leadership and the necessary building blocks to help create a winning program,'' he said. "With the commitment of our student athletes, as well as the support of our parents, teachers, administrators and ND community, I am confident our team will be successful."
