The yearly tournament allows town residents and members of the Fairfield Tennis Center the opportunity to compete for the title of Town Tennis Champion in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
“This is a part of our town’s history and we are very excited to see this great tradition continue. The tournaments give our residents a chance to play some great tennis, get to know one another through the competition and experience our wonderful tennis center complex firsthand,” said First Selectman Mike Tetreau.
“We have a new volunteer committee running the championships this year. They have made some changes that many players are going to like, such as the one-night mixed doubles tournament,” said Val Collison, manager of the Fairfield Tennis Center.
Also new in 2016, the committee is replacing the age categories with NTRP ratings categories for singles and doubles matches and the mixed doubles matches will be an open category.
Registration is open through Tuesday, June 7. Entry forms are available at the Tennis Center, 210 Old Dam Road, or online on the Fairfield Parks and Recreation's website.
Entry fees are $20 for singles players and $35 for a doubles team. Players must be 18 years or older to participate. The tournaments will follow a single-elimination format and the mixed doubles tournament will be a single-elimination with modified scoring format.
