West, 19, finished 16th in the final World Cup race of the season in Sochi, Russia. For the year, West a gold, silver and two bronze medals in World Cup events. He also won a silver medal in the Junior World Championships, a silver in the U.S. national championships and set consecutive track records at Lake Placid.
West's margin of victory of 0.773 seconds was the single largest victory for the entire season, including Men's, Women's, and Doubles World Cups, Nation Cups, Sprint Cups and Championships.
His finish this year was a big jump from 2014, when West finished 24th at the end of last season's World Cup rankings.
A Ridgefield native who learned to luge on a backyard run built by his father, West is the youngest male athlete currently on the World Cup circuit.
West finished 22nd at the 2014 XXII Olympic Winter Games last year in Sochi. He is a student at Union College in New York.
