FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Chris Smalkais stepped down as the head coach of the lacrosse team at Fairfield Prep, ending a 30-year career that included six state championships.
Smalkais amassed 404 wins in his career and 12 SCC Championships. Smalkais built the lacrosse program from the ground up and made lacrosse a premier sport at Fairfield Prep. During his time at Prep, Coach Smalkais was able to build relationships with coaches from out of state lacrosse programs in the New England and Tri-State area to develop, what is today, one of the best lacrosse schedules in the state.
In addition to his many victories and innovative coaching techniques Coach Smalkais has also been able to adapt and succeed through the many changes to the school and the sport of lacrosse over the past three decades to keep Fairfield Prep lacrosse as a top program in Connecticut.
Smalkais' son Colin graduated from Fairfield Prep in June, and will be attending Union College to continue his athletic career playing lacrosse.
