Marino, 18, won the Big Air at Fenway Park in Boston on Thursday night. Marino compiled 169.25 points in her two jumps. Canada’s Jenna Blasman took second and Brooke Voigt of Canada took third.

“It was amazing,’’ Marino said on the U.S. snowboarding website. “ I can’t believe I was able to pull out my tricks like that. I was actually very nervous at the start of this contest. With the wind and the steep, icy drop in I was feeling a lot of nerves but I was so stoked to pull out my runs and I’m so happy.”

Marino stood in second place after qualifying. She took the lead on the first run in the finals, posting a 87.25 score on a backflip. She posted a score of 82.75 on her second jump. Click here to watch Marino's jumps on the U.S. Snowboarding website.

“I’ve never snowboarded at a contest with a crowd this big - it’s amazing!" Marino said. "I thought it would make me more nervous but it actually made it way more fun. Every time I landed a trick it was so cool to hear the whole crowd going wild. There were so many people here - I didn’t think that this many people would show up for a snowboarding event. It’s amazing to see all these awesome fans out here supporting what we do."

Marino, a former player in the Westport youth soccer program who also played in high school at St. Joseph, has been steadily climbing the snowboarding world rankings in the past few years. She finished fourth in the Burton European Cup in 2014 and finished sixth in the World Snowboard Tour overall rankings in 2014. She finished second in an event last year in California.

“Pretty cool to have a snowboard contest at a baseball stadium in the middle of the city,’’ Marino wrote earlier this week on her Facebook page. “Thanks @fenwaypark for putting together a sick event!”

Marino is traveling today for a competition in Quebec Saturday night. She travels to South Korea Sunday for another event next week.
