Young Fairfield Runners Compete In National Race

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two runners from Fairfield competed in the U.S.A. Track and Field Junior Olympic cross country national championships Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Brianna Auray finished 46th in the Youth Girls Division. David Bates finished 49th in the Boys Division.

Auray ran 15:53.49 for the four kilometer race. There were 236 runners in the division, which included girls born in 1998 and 99. Bates ran 14:18.07. There were 254 runners in his race.

Both runners qualified with strong performances at a regional race in November. Auray finished third in her division, and Bates was 13th.

The runners are students at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield. They are coached by Kelly Renna.
