March for Babies: Steps in the Rain

Neither rain nor the early hour dampened the spirits of some 250 Fairfield participants in the March of Dimes’ March for Babies last Sunday morning. The walkers’ 3.5-mile course began and ended at Penfield Pavilion.

To date, more than $86,000 has been raised in Fairfield, while more than $1 million has been generated statewide thus far. An estimated 3,000 walkers took part at nine sites throughout Connecticut, according to the March of Dimes.

Funds collected by the March for Babies in Connecticut provide support for prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies. More than two dozen walkers took part on behalf of one Fairfield family, whose infant son has been in the NICU unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital since his birth on Jan. 6. "Steps for Patrick" was the team's name.

For those who would like to contribute, checks may be mailed to: March of Dimes, 867 Main St., Manchester, CT 06040. If applicable, please indicate your name, team name and walk site. Donations may also be turned in at the March of Dimes’ Greater Fairfield Division office at 11 Belden Ave. in Norwalk. Lee Faragosa is the community director.
