"Rain and snow mixed in Ridgefield now. Wouldn't be surprised to see some mix in the hills around Waterbury in next hour or so," NBC 30 meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said on Twitter.

SWCT/NY Weather Info‏ on Twitter agreed, saying "Some snow could mix in with rain showers across inland areas the next few hours. Snow shouldn't stick and no accumulations/impacts expected."

Is it the start of winter? Looks like it.

The National Weather Service said rain was likely, possibly mixed with sleet, on Tuesday evening in northern Fairfield County and Litchfield County. Little or no sleet accumulation was expected, the weather service said. But temps were expected to drop into the mid-30s overnight.

Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny with highs near 50, before the temperatures take a plunge Friday to near freezing. By Friday night, it will be a frigid 16 degrees, the weather service said.
