Kids from all over Fairfield and New Haven Counties ranging from ages 10 to 18 make up the six ensembles of the Orchestras which turn 55 this season, said Executive Director Beth Ulman.

The Principal Orchestra, which plays full orchestral versions of the world's great symphonic literature and features musicians one of the most acclaimed youth ensembles in the region, she added, with members that continually place in the All-State and the Western and Southern Region Music Festivals.

A mixed group of Principal and Symphony musicians will tour Italy June 30 to July 7, with concerts in Rome and Tuscany. It is GBYO's third international trip.

International performance opportunities are part of GBYO's educational mission and are offered every two years. And yes, said Ulman, everyone is very excited.

Aside from the Principal and Symphony Orchestras, GBYO also features a String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.
