Fairfield Library Encourages Summer Reading For All Ages

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Now that school’s out of session, it’s time for summer reading in Fairfield. The Fairfield Public Library has ongoing contests all summer for both kids and adults this year.

The Fairfield Public Library’s new website, which launched in June, runs a series of blogs with suggestions for readers. For example, “The Right Book at the Right Time” has a series of reviews and recommendations for adult readers.

This summer the library will also run contests specifically for adult readers on its website. The programs include a weekly trivia contest based on summer reading blogs, with one winner at each library winning a bag of books.

The library’s teen section also includes a blog of recommendations for young adult readers. The Teen Summer Challenge, with the theme “Go Beneath the Surface,” also has activities and prizes for finishing books throughout the summer. By the end teens in grades 6-12 will have the chance to win prizes such as metal detectors, video cameras, autographed books and gift cards.

“As you know, we love reading here at the Library, but we also know the summer isn’t just about reading,” the library says on its website. “It’s about trying new things and exploring the world around you.”

For the youngest kids, the library has reading lists made for all grade levels. The town also has set up its Nutmeg Blog, where kids can post on discussion boards dedicated to each 2014 Nutmeg Award nominee.

“It is also a great place to find a book you might like to read,” the library says.

Kids are encouraged to join the “Dig into Reading” program. In the program kids will keep track of each book they read, and with each five books they complete they move up to a different prize, starting with a spot on the “Wall of Fame” and ending with tickets to a Bridgeport Bluefish game and more.
