Amtrak Train Strikes Pedestrian Near Southport Station

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A pedestrian on the tracks near the Southport station of Metro-North was struck by an Amtrak train Tuesday afternoon.

Meredith Daniels, a spokeswoman for Metro-North, said the condition of the person was not known. 

The accident occurred at about 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, she said. 

The person was hit by a northbound Amtrak train that left Richmond, Va., at about 6 a.m. and was due in Boston at 4:35 p.m.

Amtrak and Metro-North trains were delayed in the area for about an hour, but were moving as of 2:45 p.m., she said. 

The accident happened just west of the Southport station, Daniels said. 

Metro-North trains are running with delays, but should be back on schedule for rush hour, she said.
