Woman Saved From Drowning in Fairfield Lake

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport woman was pulled out of Fairfield’s Lake Mohegan after a near drowning Monday. Police say she was swimming in an unauthorized area of the lake when the incident occurred.

The 23-year-old woman was in the Cascades section at the north end of the lake Monday afternoon. She told investigators she was walking in the water when she stepped off an underwater ledge into an area with a drastically different depth. Family members pulled her to shore and called 911.

The woman told police that she had no recollection of being pulled from the water. She was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but declined a ride to the hospital.

Fairfield Police remind residents that the Cascades section is not a designated swimming area. The Parks and Recreation department maintains a swimming area on the south shore of the lake with lifeguard patrols. Police recommend swimming in this area only.
