Emil Kaufman of Yorktown Heights pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in district court in Springfield, Massachusetts on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
Kaufman was arrested in Great Barrington, Mass., on June 26, 2013 after an investigation into a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, which Kaufman used to download and share child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Massachusetts.
A subsequent examination of Kaufman’s MacBook Pro and storage devices revealed that he possessed over 300 images of child pornography, the attorney's office added.
At the time of his arrest, Kaufman, who then lived in Hamden, Connecticut, admitted to the agents that he had a “bad habit” of trading child pornography and that he traded child pornography as recently as the previous night.
Kaufman also worked as a website designer for a summer camp for children with learning disabilities in New York.
After his initial arrest, he spent a week in jail before he was released on bail and fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet.
If the plea agreement reached by the parties is accepted by the Court, Kaufman will be sentenced to time served and 10 years of supervised release. U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni scheduled sentencing for Nov. 28.
