Officers responded to the area of Cutspring Road in Stratford and Chesire Street around 1 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of several suspicious people, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.

The group was located and an investigation determined that they had been walking the streets going through unlocked cars and stealing items such as change and pocketbooks that were left in the unlocked/unattended vehicles, Eannotti said.

The group was also found to be in possession of two stolen cars from Waterbury.

The one adult of the five arrested, all from Waterbury, was identified as Edward James Parmlee, 18.

Parmlee and the juveniles were charged with larceny and criminal attempt at larceny. He is being held on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.
