Complaints from area residents about potential drug sales in Danbury led to a lengthy police investigation of a Bank Street apartment, which was the home of Christopher Kevin Maloney. Police said that during the investigation, they “witnessed activity consistent with drug trafficking," and a warrant was issued to search the residence.

According to police, at approximately 7 p.m. on Oct. 11, investigators executed that warrant, during which, a second suspect, Chevalier Terrell Purvis “disobeyed orders to not move and immediately began to run to the rear of the apartment.” Police said that Purvis was chased into a bathroom “where he became combative and actively resisted attempts to restrain him.”

During the struggle, Purvis attempted to swallow a “substantial quantity” of cocaine, which investigators were able to retrieve from his mouth and from several areas throughout the apartment. Further investigation of the residence led to the seizure of more drugs, drug paraphernalia and “a substantial” amount of cash.

Both men were arrested and charged with

  • possession of a controlled substance;
  • possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell;
  • possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school;
  • possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school;
  • possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1500 feet of a school.

Additionally, Purvis was charged for interfering with a search warrant.

Maloney and Purvis were arraigned and are currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court later this month to answer the charges.
