With the assistance of his attorney, Harry E. Metz, 54, of Redding, turned himself in at Fairfield Police headquarters Aug. 8, police said. He was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, police said.

Metz was released on a promise to appear in court on Aug. 17.

Shortly after the incident, police released a photo of the suspect, who told the girl his name was “Hank,” and asked the media and the public for help identifying him. Tips from the public led to the arrest, police said.

The girl was in the parking lot at Jennings Beach around 10:30 p.m. when she tried to take a photo of herself with her cellphone, police said. The unknown man jumped into the photo and then touched the girl, police said.

A second juvenile was able to snap the photo of the suspect, police said.
