Members of the Milford Police Department were dispatched to the Woodmont Road Motel on Monday, Nov. 12, where there was a report of a possible domestic violence incident. Upon arrival at the motel, officers found the victim, who had facial injuries.

Police said that the alleged abuser, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, resident William Cordell, 30, had already left the scene before officers arrived.

Shortly after the call about a domestic incident, police received a call about a fight behind the Milford Public Library. The investigation into that incident led to the arrest of Cordell, who allegedly attacked another man, punching him in the face and kicking him in the stomach several times. While on the ground, Cordell’s alleged victim was able to stab him in the leg with a pocket knife in self-defense.

Cordell was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, breach of peace and two counts of assault. He is being held in lieu of $11,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
