A man who gave his name as Joseph Rodderick of Stamford was given two tickets in July for failing to stop at a stop sign and for driving without a license, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.
During the stop, the officers, Stephane Smarh and Vanessa Lynn, could smell pot and during a search turned up nine pills marked with a scorpion, Conklin said.
Once back at the police station, the two officers took the nine pills and showed them to officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit to identify what they were, he added.
Agents looked up the name and address and realized that "Rodderick" had provided a fake name. Using the officer's body cameras they were able to track down the man's real identity, Joseph Baker, partly by a unique tattoo he had, Conklin added.
Officers confirmed that the pills were MDMA or ecstasy and a warrant was put out for Baker. On Wednesday, agents with the Narc Squad spotted Baker and arrested him on the warrant.
He was charged with possession of a hallucinogen, possession with intent to sell, forgery (for signing the ticket with a fake name), and inferring with police.
Baker is being held on $25,000 bail.
