Officers were called to the parking lot of Anna Liffey’s, an Irish Pub located on Post Road in Fairfield, on a report of an intoxicated patron fighting with bouncers, who had thrown the man out of the bar after he fought with employees, police said.

According to the police report, Joshua Wifall, 41, of Livingston Place, was so intoxicated he fell asleep while sitting on a stool at the bar. When a female bartender attempted to wake him, police said, he was unresponsive.

It was when the same bartender nudged Wifall again that he woke up in an aggressive mood, police said, and attempted to strike the bartender.

Bouncers kicked out Wifall and his friend and told them not to return to the bar, police said. When the first officer responded to the parking lot, where Wifall was still unruly, throwing several punches at the officer but not hitting him once, police said.

The officer was able to bring Wifall to the ground, police said, and restrain him until a second officer could respond and make the arrest.

As of Friday morning, Wifall was held at Fairfield Police Headquarters on $500 bond. Wifall has been charged with interfering with an officer and breach of peace and is due in court Jan. 14.
