This story has been updated.

A 47-year-old school security officer who was driving his young daughter around trick or treating was arrested for drunk driving after he hit another vehicle, police said.

Michael Barrett was charged Wednesday with the risk of injury to a child, operating under the influence and failure to drive right, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.

Barrett works as a school security officer at Booth Hill School in the Trumbull school system, police said.

He was arrested after police were called to Nichols and North avenues for a car accident.

When officers arrived on scene they found Barrett had been driving his 12-year-old daughter around so that she could go trick or treating when he hit a car driven by a woman who was also driving her children to do the same, he said.

When officers approached his vehicle, they said Barrett smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted he had six drinks that evening. Police then administered field sobriety tests, which he failed.

A later blood alcohol test showed he had a limit of .191 or more than twice the legal limit, Eannotti said.

His daughter was turned over to a relative following his arrest.

Barrett, who is being held on $20,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 13.
