Serial Bank Robber Charged In Norwalk 'Scream' Robbery

NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk man who has been charged with bank robberies in Wilton, Stamford and Fairfield has been arrested in connection with a Norwalk bank robbery where he wore a mask from the movie "Scream," according to the Hour.

This suspect in Halloween mask robbed the First County Bank on Main Avenue in December. He was identified as Joseph Boccuzzi, according to the Hour.

Joseph Boccuzzi, 34, was charged with second-degree robbery and second-degree larceny for the Dec. 6 bank robbery at the First County Bank on Main Street, according to the Hour.

Police said that on the day in question, a man in a "Scream" ghost mask walked into the bank at around 2 p.m. and demanded all the money in the drawer. He also wore a black leather jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt and black gloves. No weapon was displayed an nobody was hurt, police said.

Police told the Hour that they worked with police in Stamford, Wilton and Fairfield to identify Boccuzzi as the suspect, and a a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested at Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday, according to the Hour.

Boccuzzi is accused of robbing several banks across Fairfield County, including in Wilton, Stamford and Southport. He was first arrested on Friday, April 14 and charged with robbing the Fairfield County bank in Wilton on Feb. 24. In that incident, he fled the scene in a green Honda Accord, which police had identified as a vehicle that had also been used in the Southport incident.

Police said that on Feb. 22, a person later identified as Boccuzzi showed up at the United Bank in Southport and appeared ready to rob it. The only problem was that the bank had already closed for the day and the doors were locked, according to police. When he saw that employees inside the bank had noticed him, he fled. He was charged last week with criminal attempt to commit second-degree robbery for that incident.

Boccuzzi was also arraigned on April 18 for robbing a Stamford bank twice. While being interrogated by police, he admitted to robbing the First County Bank on Hope Street in Stamford on both Nov. 12, 2016 and Feb. 3, 2017, according to the Hour.
