Tetreau: Fairfield Coming Together To Support Domestic Attack Victims

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — When Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau heard about the domestic attack on Mountain Laurel Road, he was concerned for the family and the officer who fatally shot the presumed attacker.

“My first thought went to the police officer and how he responded,” Tetreau said Thursday, noting he also considered all of the first responders involved. “They showed tremendous professionalism because that had to be a horrific scene.”

Early Tuesday, Christopher Andrews, 51, is suspected of attacking his family in their rented home, police said.

When Officer Sean Fenton, a 25-year veteran of the force, arrived at the home in response to a 911 call, Andrews was in the home’s driveway, police said. When Andrews refused an order to stand down and drop the knife he was holding, Fenton fatally shot him, police said.

Andrews’ wife and three children — ages 15, 13 and 12 — were all injured in the attack, which took place at about 6 a.m.

Given the delicate nature of the tragedy, Tetreau said he has not reached out to the family, whom he does not know personally. However, he has been in contact with many mutual friends to see how he and Fairfield can help.

“The family was very much a part of the fabric of the town,” he said. “They were very active.”

When Fairfield announced on Facebook that it would hold a community vigil for the victims at 6 p.m. Sunday on the Town Green in front of Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road, about 100 people quickly indicated they would attend.

More than 1,200 people have donated to a GoFundMe page for the family, which raised more than $140,000 in its first day.

Tetreau said both facts are indicative of the town’s character.

“This family is very much in all our thoughts and prayers,” he said.

The investigation into the incident by both Fairfield police and the State Police was continuing.
