Victim Identified In Fatal I-95 Crash

A 24-year-old man who was a passenger in a car that was disabled in the left lane of I-95 was struck and killed by a passing vehicle has been identified.

Alfredo Javier Lopez Marrero, of Tampa, Florida, was killed around 2:40 a.m. Friday while standing outside of the disabled vehicle on northbound I-95 just south of exit 40 in Milford, said the Connecticut State Police.

The incident, which closed the highway for more than four hours, happened when the second vehicle came upon the disabled vehicle and struck Marrero before hitting the vehicle.

Another passenger, Nicole Genesis Santiago Pizarro, 20, also of Tampa, was also injured. Both were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where Marrero was pronounced dead. 

The driver of the second car, Boris Shapiro, of Mineola, was not injured.

All lanes reopened just before  9 a.m. Friday.
