Connecticut State Police investigators are seeking the public’s assistance as they search for a suspect implicated in an alleged burglary and credit card fraud incident involving a senior citizen.

The Derby Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies have released surveillance photos of a suspect who is accused of the alleged theft of wallets from St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shoppe.

According to police, the suspect poses as a contractor or flower delivery person to gain access to senior living residences or communities in an effort to burglarize those locations. Investigators have described as “an older, thin build, black male subject.”

“Once inside the facility, (the suspect) will often enter the apartments of elderly people who are sleeping and explain that he is there to fix a water leak from the floor above,” police said. “The suspect then steals wallets and jewelry from the residents and uses their credit cards to purchase electronics and designer clothing items.”

This week, police released surveillance photos of the suspect, who is believed to have committed similar crimes in other towns and states.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or who knows of his whereabouts has been asked to contact their local State Police barracks or local police department. Information can also be sent by texting TIP711 and the information to 274637. All calls or texts will remain confidential.
