Four Republican candidates competing in the Aug. 14 primary election have accepted invitations to attend: Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst, Stamford native/Westport high-tech CEO Steve Obsitnik, Greenwich businessman David Stemerman and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, the state GOP's endorsed candidate.
New Haven native Bob Stefanowski of Madison has not committed to appearing at Monday's debate, according to organizers.
Fairfield University is co-hosting the debate along with the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC), the CT Mirror, Connecticut Public Radio and NBC Connecticut.
Monday evening's debate is free and open to the public.
John Dankosky of Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR) will serve as debate moderator.
“Debate forums are important as they are often the first time voters are meeting their potential elected officials,” said Gayle Alberda, PhD, associate professor of politics and director of Ready to Run CT, the campaign training program for women.
Jennifer Anderson ’97, MBA ’02, vice president of Marketing and Communications, said: “Fairfield University remains committed to providing forums in which the community can be educated on important local and national events, We’re excited to be able to host this debate and provide an opportunity for the voters and candidates to come together before the primary election.”

Sacred Heart University hosted two separate gubernatorial debates for Republican candidates and two Democratic Party candidates last month.
A date for another debate prior to the November election has not been finalized, but that debate will take place at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University.
