The Suffolk County PD Sixth Precinct officer was shot twice while on the job during an incident at a Coram home at approximately 12:50 p.m. Thursday, May 11, according to authorities.

The man who allegedly shot him, 20-year-old Janell Funderburke, was inside a Norfleet Lane home when police arrived to do surveillance, as Funderburke was wanted for an armed robbery that had occurred two days earlier.
Upon seeing the officers arrive, Funderburke, a resident of Coram, left the house and fled the scene, police said.
One officer reportedly pursued the suspect on foot but in front of 86 Homestead Drive, Funderburke turned around and fired two shots at the man, striking him in the right thigh.
The officer was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and will undergo surgery, according to the department.
Funderburke was arrested and charged with:
- Attempted aggravated murder
- First-degree robbery
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, May 12 at First District Court.
