Eagle Hill Southport School Announces Expansion Plan In Fairfield

SOUTHPORT, Conn. — Eagle Hill Southport School, an innovative learning space for students with ADHD and dyslexia and other language-based learning differences, will expand into the former People’s United Bank adjacent to campus.

The school bought 226-228 Main Street Monday and will begin renovations on the building in May, according to the board of directors.

“This is a very exciting time to be part of Eagle Hill Southport School because it continues to deliver on its mission to provide transformative educational experiences that have lifelong impact on its students,” said Virginia Cargill, board chair Chair and a Southport resident. “This expansion marks a pivotal change in each student’s daily experience that will enrich their learning; and it, quite literally, opens our doors even wider to the greater community of learning differences and education.”

The new building’s architectural footprint will include a new admissions suite and a new communications center. The space vacated by those departments, which are currently housed in the Pequot School building, will be reconfigured in the future based on the campus master plan developed with Peterman Architects, Inc.

As part of a strategic campus master plan, the renovated building will serve as a hub of creativity for Eagle Hill Southport School students and faculty, featuring large, open classroom space for music, the arts, movement and teacher training.

“The new building represents an opportunity to invest in connecting research-to-practice in unique ways to serve our community of inspiring and talented learners,” Headmaster Benjamin Powers said. “I feel a great sense of privilege and honor to launch such an important and thoughtful space for our next generation of leaders, innovators, and creative thinkers.”

Since its inception in 1985, EHSS is dedicated to creating an environment for students with language-based learning differences and ADHD that recognizes individual strengths, promotes independent thinking, develops self-esteem and self-advocacy and supports a successful transition for continued academic achievement.

In the last 32 years, EHSS has grown from serving 20 students to 110, aged 5 to 15, across more than 20 communities in Connecticut and New York. To learn more about EHSS, visit
