FAIRFIELD, Conn. —  The senior picnic and senior yearbook signing party have been canceled after a senior prank gone wrong at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, according to a post from Headmaster Greg Hatzis at Hamlet Hub.

Watermelons, meant to be left as decorations, were smashed in hallways, walls, the senior lounge and bathrooms, and a gallon of maple syrup was poured down a stairwell on Monday, Hatzis said at Hamlet Hub.

It was a "huge effort" for the custodial staff to clean up, Hatzis said at Hamlet Hub.

Hatzis is asking for the students responsible for the mess to step forward, or for anyone with knowledge to speak up, Hamlet Hub said.

He asked parents to talk to their children to "help students learn from mistakes," Hamlet Hub said.
