'Miracle of Morristown:' How Woman Who Lost Leg After Being Struck By Train Saved Her Own Life Lisa Fitzgerald was two weeks shy of her birthday and commuting to New York when she lost her leg after being struck by train in Morristown on Saturday, May 4.  Fitzgerald was on the Morristown platform with the injury when responders arrived at the scene, just before 7:25 p.m., a spokesperson for NJ Transit said.  She saved her own life by pulling herself off the train tracks, onto the platform and screaming for help, according to a fundraiser set up to support Fitzgerald. At 12:41 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of 7th Avenue and confirmed gunshots were fired, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. A search of the area did not locate any victims, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation.
