A new round of thunderstorms with heavy downpours resulted in flooding throughout Fairfield County with a stretch of I-95 closed for a portion of the Thursday evening commute. The closure occurred southbound between Exit 15 and Exit 16 in Norwalk. The northbound side in that area had one lane open. Expect Heavy Traffic Delays In Downtown Stamford Due To Construction Work
Motorists driving through downtown Stamford on Thursday should expect heavy delays throughout the day due to construction.The delays, expected to last until 6 p.m., will be primarily on Summer Street and Washington Boulevard between Broad and Main streets, Stamford Police said in an advisory issued just before 10 a.m. Thursday. Avoid operating a vehicle in the area if you don't have to, police said.

Temporary Memorial Day Road Closures Scheduled On I-95
Exit 16 ramps along Interstate-95 will be closed on Monday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the Norwalk Memorial Day Parade. The Norwalk Police Department announced the temporary road closure. The parade starts at Veterans Park in East Norwalk and proceeds east on Van Zant Street, then north on East Avenue prior to concluding at the Norwalk Green. Expect Delays: Long Ridge Road Resurfacing Starts
There will be lane closures in Stamford for several days as crews begin a road resurfacing project in on Long Ridge Road. The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced that beginning on Monday, May 14, there will be a 2.7-mile project performed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the road that is expected to last through Friday, May 18. During the scope of the project, lane closures have been scheduled on Long Ridge Road from the .28 mile north of Route 15 underpass to the 0.11 mile south of Riverbank Road. Crash Damaging Pole Causes Road Closure In Stamford
Motorists should take note that a roadway in Stamford remains closed Monday morning following a traffic crash that damaged a power pole, according to Stamford Police. Power company employees are replacing the pole on Pepper Ridge at Vine Road that was smashed during the crash around 8 p.m. Sunday, police said. Police said Pepper Ridge Road will remain closed until the repairs are complete, and did not have an exact time estimate. Officers did not have information on the crash, or if anyone was injured. Van Plunges Off Overpass On Bronx River Parkway In Westchester
Traffic was tied up on the Bronx River Parkway during Thursday’s morning commute when a van flew off the Cross County overpass in Yonkers, coming to a crashing half below. The driver of a van was hospitalized with minor injuries after he was driving up the westbound ramp of the Cross County Parkway shortly before 6:30 a.m. when he lost control on the curved roadway, went through the guardrail, off the edge and landed in the median of the Bronx River Parkway, police said. Traffic Alert Issued As Route 59 Work Starts
Motorists planning on traveling on Route 59 in Easton can expect slight delays in the area as crews begin efforts to replace the guardrail system and cut trees for several days. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will begin replacing the guardrail daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 16, during which time, there are expected to be delays along different parts of Route 59. Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, Downed Trees Snarl Morning Commute
Periods of heavy rain, combined with strong winds, resulted in delays throughout Fairfield County during the Monday morning commute with downed trees also being reported. Downed trees closed two roads in Greenwich: Davis Avenue at Wilbur Peck Court and Glenville Road closed between Midwood Road and Valley Drive. A jackknifed tractor-trailer crashed blocking I-91 lanes in both directions between Exits 38 and 40 in Windsor. (See second image above.)
